De Curaçaose profbodybuilder Roelly Winklaar is de grote afwezige op Mr Olympia 2020. Hij heeft namelijk positief getest op Covid-19 en trok zich terug uit de prestigieuze competitie.
Winklaar is een IFBB Pro League-bodybuilder. De voormalige kampioen van Arnold Australia zal dit weekeinde niet van de partij zijn in Orlando, Florida.
Al op zondag deden geruchten de ronde dat de Curaçaose profbodybuilder niet naar de Verenigde Staten zal vliegen voor deelname aan Mr Olympia 2020. Het plan was dat hij vanuit Istanbul, Turkije, naar Orlando za vliegen.
Chief Olympia Officer en president Dan Solomon bevestigde het nieuws dat Winklaar afziet van deelname aan de prestigieuze competitie, omdat hij positief had getest op de ziekte.
Winklaar is de tweede sporter uit de zogenoemd categorie Men’s Open, die dit seizoen besmet is geraakt met het coronavirus. De eerste was Mamdouh ‘Big Ramy’ Elssbiay. Deze bodybuilder testte positief op Covid-19 vlak voordat hij in oktober zou deelnemen aan de Europe Pro Show 2020 in Alicante, Spanje.
Een dag nadat het nieuws bekend was geworden dat Winklaar positief was, ging de Curaçaose profbodybuilder naar Instagram om het nieuws rechtstreeks met zijn fans te delen.

It is with an extremely sad and heavy heart that I want to officially announce to all my fans, my supporters, and everyone else in the industry, that I will unfortunately not be competing at the 2020 Mr. Olympia.
I have tested positive for Covid-19 while in Turkey en route to the US. We have tried everything we possibly could but being Covid-19 positive there is really nothing else we can do. In the meantime some Covid-19 symptoms have presented and my focus is now on a full recovery. Even though the news already broke out it is only fair that I inform you all
personally of this unexpected turn of events.
My coach @ahmd_askr and I were so eager to show you an entirely different physique this year. Something you’ve never seen before. Nevertheless, rest assured that while I am in recovery we will be working on our game plan for 2021.
