First WS Ring Ozzie Albies

Ozzie Albies have his first World Series ring. He won the Major League Baseball (MLB) final with the Atlanta Braves yesterday, November 2, 2021. Houston Astros were defeated 7-0.

Albies is not the first Curaçaoan to have won the World Series. Before him, Xander Bogaerts (Boston Red Sox) and Kenley Jansen (Los Angeles Dodgers) as well as coach Hensley Meulens also won this MLB final.

In the sixth game of the ‘best of seven’ series, Albies again had a strong performance. He appeared at bats three times and had two hits and also scored twice for the Atlanta Braves.

In three of six games against the Houston Astros, he had hits and finished the World Series with 5 hits in 21 at bats, for a batting average of 238 runs. The two runs Albies scored yesterday were on homeruns by teammates Jorge Soler and Dansby Swanson.

Soler was named Most Valuable Player after the game. The Atlanta Braves rightfielder hit three World Series homeruns.

It was the Atlanta Braves’ fourth MLB title. The team previously won in 1914, 1957 and 1995. Houston Astros first won the championship four years ago. At this only championship in the club history, the team was accused of cheating.
