Pirates win first game

Sta Maria Pirates has won the first game in the finals of the Curaçao baseball competition. The team defeated Wild Cats by the score of 8-4. The Pirates secured the win in the third inning by scoring 5 runs: 5-0.

Sta Maria Pirates qualified for the final in the AA division by eliminating Royal Scorpions. The Wild Cats advanced to the final by beating Sta Rosa Indians.

Sta Maria was the first team to score. Five Pirates crossed home plate in the third inning. In the sixth inning, both teams were able to score a run: 6-1. Hereafter, the Wild Cats scored another run: 2-6. Both teams were able to score twice in their last at bat,

Pitcher Scott Prins became the winning pitcher. He gave up 2 runs and 5 hits in 7.2 innings. He struck out nine and walked two batters. He was relieved in the eighth inning by Koen Postelmans who in turn made way on the mound in the ninth inning for Djenoir Mogen.

Second baseman Denzel Gregg finished as the best batter with 2 hits in 4 at bats. He also batted in two runs for Sta Maria Pirates.

The second game in the final is scheduled for tomorrow night.
